📜Testnet Tutorial

zkBTC Testnet is Live Now

Hello Lightec fam, welcome to the ZKBTC testnet event! We’re thrilled to have you here as we kick off what promises to be a pivotal moment in our journey. After months of hard work and anticipation, we’re finally at the launch day we’ve all been eagerly waiting for.

To help you get started with our testnet, we’ve put together a step-by-step tutorial that efficiently guides you through setup and basic features. Join now.

Quick start:

Begin your journey on the zkBTC Testnet by visiting its official website: testnet.zkbtc.money

Step 1: Installing the zkBTC Wallet Extension

To begin, visit the Chrome Web Store and search for the zkBTC wallet. Click ‘Add to Chrome’ to add the wallet extension to your browser. This seamless integration is essential for interacting smoothly with the testnet.

Create Your zkBTC Wallet (For Testnet ONLY. Never import your wallets with assets)

Once you’ve installed the zkBTC wallet extension, follow the on-screen instructions to either create a new wallet or import an existing one. During the setup process, there will be a recovery phrase for the only wallet. This phrase is crucial for accessing your wallet in the future, so make sure to store it securely and discreetly. If you lose this phrase, you will not be able to recover your wallet forever.

Please note, if you are importing an existing wallet, do not import your personal wallet containing real assets. The zkBTC wallet is intended for testing purposes only.

Step 2: Claim Your Test Tokens

With your wallet ready, go back to the zkBTC Testnet website (testnet.zkbtc.money) to start engaging with zkBTC testnet.

Find and click the ‘Faucet’ button to proceed to the token distribution page. Here, select to receive specific test tokens — typically 0.001 tBTC and 0.005 tETH — delivered directly to your wallet address. It may take a while.

Remember, faucet requests can be made once every 24 hours.

Step 3: Deposit

First, connect your wallet and ensure that the zkBTC wallet extension is installed and active.

Second, head to the ‘Deposit’ section on the zkBTC Testnet site. There, input the amount of $Bitcoin you want to deposit and the Ethereum address where you’ll receive your $zkBTC. Confirm your details are accurate before proceeding. ( Click “Max” to make sure you have enough balance to complete the redemption. )

Click on ‘Deposit’ to start the process. It will then generate a zero-knowledge proof, which can take around an hour depending on the current Bitcoin network traffic. This proof is crucial for the subsequent minting of your $zkBTC.

Step 4: Submit ZKP Proof

View transaction history to monitor your activity, select ‘Deposit History’ from the menu to view all recorded transactions.

After your zk-proof has been generated and your transaction appears in the deposit history, confirm the submission of the proof. This verification is essential for successfully minting your $zkBTC.

Once the zk-proof is ready and verified, zkBTC will be minted and deposited into your specified Ethereum address. You can track the progress on the zkBTC Testnet site and will be notified once the process is complete.

Step 5: Redeem

When you’re ready to redeem your $BTC, access the ‘Redeem’ feature within the testnet interface and specify the amount to be redeemed.

Finalize your redemption by interacting with the smart contract. Like the deposit process, the redemption typically takes about an hour to complete, depending on network conditions.

By following the steps outlined above, you have successfully completed a full interaction with the zkBTC testnet.

Also, our social media engagement campaigns are coming soon. Stay tuned.

We hope this tutorial has been helpful in getting you familiar with using the zkBTC testnet. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
